Foxfire Mountain House Wedding in the Catskills
A Wedding Weekend at Foxfire Mountain House
There’s something about a wedding at Foxfire Mountain House that feels less like arriving at a traditional wedding venue and more like disappearing into the Catskills for the weekend.
Set on ten wooded acres in Mount Tremper, New York, Foxfire has an intimate, eclectic atmosphere that feels collected rather than designed - a historic inn, gardens, woodland paths, warm communal spaces, and the kind of relaxed setting that naturally encourages everyone to settle in and stay awhile.
For a wedding photographer, that atmosphere is part of what makes Foxfire so special. There are layers of texture and character everywhere, but the property never overwhelms the people in it. The setting lends itself beautifully to the way I photograph weddings: observing the celebration as it unfolds while using the landscape, architecture, light, and thoughtful details to create more intentional portraits along the way.
Claire + Steve chose Foxfire Mountain House for a celebration that felt intentional, intimate, sophisticated, and joyful. Smoke tree branches lined their ceremony aisle, while disco balls transformed the reception space - details that felt both unexpected and completely at home within Foxfire’s eclectic Catskills setting.
What It’s Like to Photograph a Wedding at Foxfire Mountain House
Foxfire Mountain House is one of those Catskills wedding venues that gives you so much variety without ever feeling overly polished or staged. The property has this beautifully layered, collected quality - wooded paths, gardens, the historic inn, intimate gathering spaces, and so many interesting textures and pockets of light.
From a photography perspective, I especially love how naturally the day can move through the property. There are beautiful environments for portraits without needing to leave Foxfire, while the setting itself encourages the kind of relaxed, unscripted moments I’m always watching for throughout a wedding day.
The atmosphere also lends itself beautifully to both digital and film. There’s a richness to the interiors, landscape, and details that feels timeless and a little nostalgic - something that fits naturally with the way I photograph weddings.
Planning a Wedding at Foxfire Mountain House?
If you’re planning a wedding at Foxfire Mountain House or elsewhere in the Catskills, I’d love to photograph your celebration in a way that feels honest, artful, and completely true to the experience.
My approach blends documentary storytelling with refined portraiture and both digital and film photography - leaving room for the day to unfold naturally while preserving all of the people, atmosphere, and fleeting moments that make it yours.
