Molly + Nik were married on a rainy October day at Glenmere Mansion in Chester, New York - a celebration filled with old-world elegance, incredible florals, candlelight, and one very unforgettable dance floor.
Set among the rolling hills of the Hudson Valley, Glenmere Mansion is one of those wedding venues that feels completely removed from New York. Originally built as a Tuscan-inspired country estate, its architecture, formal gardens, intimate interiors, and surrounding landscape give wedding days here an unmistakably European feeling. Glenmere Mansion exudes old-world charm, making it the perfect setting for such a gorgeous wedding, and rocking party. And on a rainy autumn day, it becomes something else entirely.
As a photographer, I find that rain adds a poetic softness to the atmosphere. The mist softened the landscape and deepened the colors surrounding the property, while the warmth inside Glenmere created an intimate contrast. Molly and Nik embraced all of it - celebrating beneath umbrellas, gathering with their guests under the tent, and eventually filling the reception with the kind of energy that makes you forget there was ever a forecast to worry about.
Having photographed Glenmere Mansion across different seasons, weather, and wedding-weekend celebrations, it has become one of my favorite Hudson Valley venues to photograph - not only because of how beautiful it is, but because of how many different environments it gives us to work with throughout a wedding day.
Molly absolutely nailed the aesthetic of her timeless wedding by wearing a Pronovias gown from Designer Loft Bridal. The gown was both regal and simple, the epitome of sophistication—an exquisite contrast to the misty and stormy landscape outside. Molly exudes beauty, grace, intelligence, and is just honestly one of the sweetest and cutest humans you could ever hope to be around. Nik, looking absolutely handsome in his impeccably tailored Brioni tux, was a total tall glass of water.
The floral artistry by Athabold was breathtaking, transforming Glenmere into a verdant wonderland. A particular highlight was the hanging greenery installation ring suspended above the dance floor—a masterpiece of lush greenery. It cast a soft, romantic glow over the evening. Big props to Bearfly Designs for the lighting, which was the ultimate collaborator to all the beautiful florals in the reception barn.
As guests mingled under the tent for cocktail hour, Hudson Horns took the lead in creating an unforgettable experience. With their fun and energetic musicians, they led guests from the cocktail hour to the reception space in a jubilant parade-style procession. The joy was palpable, and the energy was infectious. Once all the guests arrived in the reception space, Molly and Nik absolutely NAILED their choreographed first dance. It was insanely good, and I will forever be impressed when I think about it and look back upon their photographs.

Despite the rain—or perhaps because of it—this wedding was a testament to the beauty of the unexpected. The weather only heightened the sense of intimacy, encouraging stolen glances beneath umbrellas and cozy moments sharing cocktails. Glenmere Mansion, with its timeless allure, provided the perfect canvas for a day that will be cherished forever.
In the end, it's these fleeting, rain-kissed moments that truly capture the essence of love—imperfect, spontaneous, and utterly magical. And with a location with the interior and exterior like Glenmere Mansion, whether you need to move the plan indoors, or under a tent, you aren’t missing a thing.

Favorite Places for Wedding Photos at Glenmere Mansion
There are beautiful photographs to make almost everywhere at Glenmere, but a few spaces consistently give us something special.
The Formal Gardens
The symmetry, hedges, fountain, and architecture give the gardens their distinctly European feeling. They’re beautiful for portraits, but I especially love photographing couples moving through the space rather than treating every corner as a backdrop.
Inside the Mansion
Glenmere’s interiors offer a completely different mood - refined, intimate, and especially valuable when the weather decides not to cooperate. The architecture and layered spaces lend themselves beautifully to quieter portraits and documentary photographs throughout the day.
The Lake and Ceremony Lawn
For outdoor ceremonies, the landscape surrounding Glenmere Lake creates a softer counterpoint to the formality of the mansion and gardens. The open sky and water are especially beautiful as the light begins to change later in the day.
The Gardens at Golden Hour
When timing allows, I love stealing my couples away for a few minutes as the light softens. By this point in the day, portraits also tend to feel different - the ceremony is over, everyone has exhaled a little, and there’s space to simply wander together.
The best portrait locations ultimately depend on the season, weather, timeline, and light that particular day. I never want photographing a venue to become a checklist of places we have to visit. I’d rather respond to what the day is giving us and create something that feels specific to the two of you.
What Happens if It Rains at a Glenmere Mansion Wedding?
Rain at Glenmere doesn’t mean sacrificing beautiful photographs.
Molly and Nik’s October wedding was proof of that. The rain brought a softness to the landscape, deeper color to the gardens, and an intimacy to the photographs that a perfectly sunny day simply wouldn’t have created.
From a practical standpoint, Glenmere also gives us options. Its interiors and covered spaces allow us to adjust the photography plan without losing the character of the venue, and when there’s a break in the weather, we can move outside quickly rather than spending valuable time traveling somewhere else.
I always build enough flexibility into a wedding-day photography timeline that we can respond to changing light and weather rather than letting either dictate the experience.
Some of my favorite photographs from Glenmere have happened precisely because the day didn’t look the way anyone originally imagined.
Molly + Nik’s story in their words
- How you met
We grew up in the same town, Larchmont. We then went our separate ways, until around 10 years later when we were both living in NYC at matched on a dating app. The rest is history!
- How you got engaged
We were on a trip in Kauai, and went on a sunrise hike together on Christmas morning. At the top of the hike, just after the sun had risen, Nik got down on one knee and popped the question!
- How you decided to get married at Glenmere, and any other wedding planning/vendor decisions you hope to share
We knew we wanted to get married in NY since that’s where we are from and where most of our friends and family are based. We picked Glenmere because we loved the look and feel.

Corinne van Arsdale was our wedding planner, and we couldn’t recommend her highly enough.
We were so pleased with all of our vendors: Caitlinn for photography (of course), Lola’s for catering, Athabold for florals, Willow House Beauty for hair & makeup, Hudson Horns for our band, Bearfly Designs for lighting, and Dideo for videography.

The whole weekend was a dream! We felt so loved by our guests — and each other, of course. The thoughtful and hilarious toasts from our friends and family were a major highlight, as was the dancing — our first dance (which we crushed!), the Horah, and everything in between. We served sandwiches from Katz’s Deli at the after party, which I think was a highlight for many of our guests :)
It was the perfect weekend — we only wish we could experience it all over again!
